With sadness we have to report the total loss this Autumn of “Thunder Bay” , a Countess 28 belonging to Tony Tongue. The boat was torn from its moorings at Beaumaris in high winds, breaking two half-inch chains, before being driven ashore and destroyed.

UK Circumnavigation for the RNLI

As was announced ay the East Coast Dry Meet, your Hon. Secretary is planning a three-month round Britain cruise, and is hoping to fundraise for the RNLI at the same time. Pepsand is a bilge keel 28 sloop built as a retirement project by Peter Major. She came into my ownership some ten years ago and is kept at Swale Marina, Conyer, near Faversham.

The cruise is due to begin at the start of May. The plan is to travel clockwise, to sail up the east coast if Ireland and to pass through the Caledonian Canal. The hope is also to make contact with COA members as we progress, and to facilitate this I shall be running a blog www.ukcruise.blogspot.com to be kept up to date on a regular basis. Some of the time I shall be sailing single-handed, but crew have booked certain legs. If anyone would like to join the boat for some of the trip, just contact me.

For ease and security of donation I have a page at www.justgiving.com/UKCruise. Please help in a very good cause. The money I raise will be used for training purposes.
